Building vrdual (free open-source flat-to-VR tool) & owncoder (local AI)
Beskrivelse
👋 Hi, I'm Maciej (adderek)
I am an independent open-source developer, hardware tinkerer, and Linux/PC enthusiast.
I started releasing my projects because I got tired of the direction modern software is taking: expensive licenses, intrusive DRM, black-box binaries, and forced cloud subscriptions. I believe that if you bought your hardware—whether it's a VR headset or a powerful GPU—you should be able to push it to its limits using free, transparent, and open tools.
🚀 What I'm Building & Sharing
My repositories on GitHub (github.com/adderek) are built in my free time to solve real-world hardware and software limitations:
- 🥽
vrdual(Free & Open-Source Flat-to-VR Tool): What started as an experiment in utilizing dual-GPU setups for VR evolved into a full-fledged, open-source alternative to paid, DRM-heavy commercial VR injectors (like VorpX). My goal withvrdualis to let gamers experience non-VR games in virtual reality and experiment with advanced GPU rendering pipelines—completely for free, with no restrictive licensing or hardware lock-ins. - 🤖
owncoder(Local-First AI Coding Agent): A standalone, security-focused coding agent designed to work with local LLMs. Built with strict execution isolation, it serves as a private, free alternative to commercial cloud-based coding assistants. - âš¡ GPU Tuning, Local AI & System Utilities: Low-level tools, scripts, and configurations for multi-GPU setups, local AI inference (
llama.cpp,vLLM, ROCm/CUDA), and pragmatic utilities in C/C++, Python, Go, and Bash.
☕ Why Support My Work?
Commercial tools in the VR injection or AI space often cost €40+ upfront or require monthly subscriptions, while locking you into restrictive licenses. I want to keep vrdual and owncoder 100% free and open-source forever.
However, low-level graphics programming, testing VR compatibility across different games/headsets, and tuning multi-GPU setups takes a massive amount of personal time and hardware resources.
Your support on Liberapay directly helps me cover:
1. Development time for vrdual: Adding support for more games/engines, improving frame pacing, 3D reconstruction, and multi-GPU performance.
2. Hardware & electricity costs: Running and testing multi-GPU rigs, VR headsets, and local LLM servers.
3. Keeping my software independent: No ads, no telemetry, no DRM, and no paywalls.
If vrdual saved you from buying an expensive commercial license, or if you simply support the idea of open, DRM-free VR and AI tools—thank you for considering a donation! Even the price of a coffee makes a huge difference and keeps me motivated to push new updates.
